Tatiana Phelan

I was born in in Bogotá, Colombia. I grew up watching my father paint and seeing him have a very spiritual connection with art as he has dedicated his life to art as a painter and sculptor. This inspired me to create and nurture my own love for art which has provided me with an incredible peace over the years.

My compositions are inspired by “Magical Realism” which is a narrative technique that weaves fantastic or mythical elements into seemingly realistic fiction. This concept was first introduced in literature by the Colombian Nobel prize winner Gabriel Garcia Marquez, who I have admired since my childhood.

For over 10 years I have been creating colorful artworks with harmonious contrasts that represent elements from nature that are then transformed into magical scenes. This allows me to recreate my emotions and get closer to the magical/rich landscapes and gardens that I grew up surrounded by in Colombia and that now I have the fortune to enjoy since I moved to Portland, OR.
