Artist: Zabdiel Martínez

Medium: Charcoal & Ink & Watercolor Gold Leaf
Dimensions: Size Drawing: 74” x 38” inches / Non-Framed

This piece is part of the show "Guardians of the Threshold." In Jungian depth psychology, archetypes function as psychic structures from the unconscious, guiding seekers through self-reflection and transformation. Artist Zabdiel Martinez, from Oaxaca, Mexico, explores influential archetypes such as the Japanese dragon, Greek sphinx, celestial angel, and the lion with a female figure in his drawings. These archetypes serve as guardians, prompting questions about the unknown and the journey toward hidden knowledge rather than blocking passage. The Sphinx challenges travelers to confront their nature, the Angel bridges the material and spiritual, the Dragon symbolizes inner power and balance, and the Woman and Lion embody the integration of strength and wisdom. Martinez’s exhibition invites viewers to explore their thresholds, transforming them from observers into travelers of their mysteries.
