I have lived in the Pacific Northwest my entire life and am absolutely amazed at the diversity of Nature’s splendor and resilience in this small corner of our planet.
I feel we as humans often disregard Nature’s patterns, beauty, and intricacies; perhaps they have become so common that we don’t even see them any longer. My art is primarily my ode to its beauty that is often overlooked. One way I honor Nature is to reuse wood that would otherwise be wasted; Reusing wood in this way affords the most respect possible to what Nature has created. The imperfections that come with using salvaged wood are something I celebrate, as it makes each piece unique, like all of Nature’s creations. When items have been used and worn with scuffs and scrapes, they can still be beautiful. I feel repurposing items that are no longer 'perfect' or useful is important; therefore, I primarily use reclaimed substrates in my art. The image above is an old wooden cutting board that is now art; it may not be perfect, in fact, you can see old knife marks on it, but that's what makes it unique and special.
