THE GREAT INCONGRUENCE: Visual Tirades
Original artwork by artist Christopher DeGon!

Step into a realm where collage art transcends mere aesthetics, transforming into a visceral commentary on the complexities of our times. The Great Incongruence showcases a series of visual tirades—meticulously crafted paper collage illustrations that document the world through the artist's discerning eyes, each piece filtered through the kaleidoscope of lived experiences.

This exhibition delves into themes ripe for exploration, including:

  • Willful Ignorance and Hypocrisy: A striking examination of the absurd levels of denial that permeate our society, portrayed in visuals that boldly challenge the status quo.

  • Complacent Citizens and Revolution: The quiet existence of individuals disrupted by the clarion call for change, capturing the tension of awakening from apathy.

  • Fence-Sitters and Decision: Those reluctant souls compelled to choose a side, depicted in a nuanced dance of uncertainty and newfound resolve.

Each collage is a unique masterpiece, fashioned from vintage paper, X-acto knives, adhesive, and infused with a palpable angst that mirrors the chaotic beauty of contemporary life. These layered textures and vibrant compositions invite viewers to explore the complex narratives intricately woven into the fabric of each piece.

About

Christopher DeGon

His artwork is distinguished by a captivating technique that incorporates social commentary, storytelling, hyperbole, and repurposed clichés. His pieces invite viewers into a contemplative exploration, revealing layers of complexity with each encounter.

Rooted in his upbringing in the rural Pacific Northwest, DeGon was influenced by underground, counter-culture, and psychedelic artists, including Dave Sheridan, Bill Gawlik, and Ron Cobb. With a modest yet impactful career in the 80s and 90s graphic design scene, he contributed to Seattle's vibrant music culture through illustrative projects. Now based in Portland, Oregon, DeGon continues to refine his unique artistic approach in his studio.
